When trying to explain new concepts Japanese games can be extremely long winded and can make even very simple things sound exceptionally complicated.

I think this is mainly due to the translation between two very different languages but it is very, very rare for a Japanese game to have clear and concise instructions. This is something that Japanese games in particular are very poor at doing. The problem however is in how well the game, film or book communicates to the player, observer or reader. This is precisely the sort of thing I like to experience in games, films and books. In reply to TheLostTam I would very much like to play a game set in a very alien culture or time period. The 3DS doesnвЂ™t really seem an ideal format for a serious racer but Ridge Racer 3D is pretty good.

The thing is I was only playing DS games and a couple of cheap download games until I got Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. Just dug out my 3DS XL, which I havenвЂ™t played in a while and IвЂ™m addicted again. We do agree Next Level Games deserve a bigger project though, LuigiвЂ™s Mansion 2 was great.

Donkey Kong Country Returns is a very good game and shows Retro still have a lot of talent, we just donвЂ™t think itвЂ™s being used in the most sensible way. GC: There has been that suggestion and certainly many staff have left over the years, but others have joined too вЂ“ including veterans of Naughty Dog and Vigil Games. Though if Nintendo want to take Metroid in a new direction, allowing Next Level Games вЂ“ who did stellar work on LuigiвЂ™s Mansion 2 вЂ“ to craft the franchiseвЂ™s first third-person 3D adventure might be an idea. I share GCвЂ™s frustration about RetroвЂ™s big reveal being a Donkey Kong Country Returns sequel, but havenвЂ™t many of the key staff from Metroid Prime moved on to Batman: Arkham Origins developer Armature? Perhaps Retro now lacks the expertise to create a new Metroid worthy of the name?
